June 2008 TBR list
May I take a second, and discuss the books I read last month?
(Grieved- once again, I have to go and make a bad pun... but hey, if a pun is useful enough for Shakespeare, then it is good enough for me...)
This spent month was an interesting duration for reading. I found some duration in my day to do some reading while at work, so I was efficient to make a return to a few succession I had lost touch with, and a work that I has been sitting on my TBR pile for 10 years....
· Port- John R. Maxim: This is one of the few books that I have peruse that is set in a local I am VERY familiar with. (The other being Greg Cox's Soul Rider, which was suppose to be set in Fastness Worth, Texas). In this sheathe, it was Hilton Head Isle in South Carolina. And while it has been a few years since I last lived there, I still am VERY well versed with so much of the island and therefore, had no problems picturing the rigid locations of the settings mentioned in the volume. (In fact, I almost had coke shooting out of my nose when the work mentions the Piggly Wiggle parking lot; my former Pace-father in law was the dairy overseer at the Pig and thus, I REALLY knew this mark). The other object about this book was the time it was set; the work was published around 1997, and therefore, is a bit dated. But one substance that really stood out for me was acquisition use the idea of the storyline occuring BEFORE 9/11/01; yeah, the work deals with Islamic Terrorists, but none of the things we take for granted- Homeland Safety; threat level warnings; etc- are in the volume, even though you are expecting them to be there. Does take a while to get use to this be in need of of realism...
